A recent study by the SMB Group, a research company analyzing trends for small and medium size businesses (SMBs), indicated that social media is an important source of information for technology solutions, but not as important as search engines or vendor Websites.

However, adjusted for age, social media won out as a source of advice among the younger crowd:
